Spotify Student US: The Exclusive Offer You May Not Qualify For

For music lovers, Spotify offers a premium account deal at $4.99 per month for college students in the United States. However, this exclusive offer is only available to students enrolled in Title IV institutions that accept federal funding. Hillsdale College students, who are not part of a Title IV institution, have recently found out that they no longer qualify for this discounted rate.

Spotify updated its terms within the past year, stating that the discount is offered to 'students at a U.S. college/university located in the United States.' As a third-party service, SheerID, which verifies student eligibility for Spotify's offers, must follow these guidelines set by Spotify. Despite this, Hillsdale College students were initially denied the discounted rate after going through the manual student verification process with SheerID.

Aunika, a member of the SheerID verification team, explained that only Title IV accredited institutions located in the United States are approved for the discount. This means that Hillsdale College students, who do not accept federal funding, are no longer eligible for this offer.

When asked for comment, Spotify did not respond to multiple requests. The music streaming service's terms and conditions clearly outline the eligibility criteria, which has led to confusion among some college students. Unfortunately, this means that Hillsdale College students will have to find alternative ways to enjoy their favorite tunes without taking advantage of the exclusive student discount.

For students attending Title IV institutions, this offer remains a great way to enjoy premium music streaming at an affordable price. However, for those who do not meet these criteria, it may be necessary to explore other options or upgrade to a standard Spotify account.
